Chinese culture week opens in Yangon, Myanmar

A Chinese culture week formally opened at the National Theater here Tuesday evening to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Dialogue Mechanism between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Chinese Ambassador Guan Mu and Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Myanmar Foreign Ministry U Kyaw Kyaw inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon.

The Chinese culture week activities comprise two performances by Chinese national arts troupe at the National Theater, photo exhibition at the National Museum and film show at the Nay Pyi Taw Cinema in downtown Yangon.

The Chinese national arts troupe premiered following the opening ceremony and won waves of applause from the audiences totaling about 1,000.

The photo exhibition will display 90 sheets of large photos featuring dynamic Beijing and reflecting Beijing's development as well as the hot preparation activities in anticipation of the 2008 Olympic Games.

The film show throughout the week will include screening of three Chinese selected movies -- "Jasmine Women" mainly played by famous actress Zhang Zhiyi, Riding Alone for Thousand of Miles" directed by famous director Zhang Yimou and involving a famous Japanese actor, and "A Bright Moon".

Three other selected Myanmar movies will also be on the screen.

The Chinese culture week is being held under the cultural exchange program of China and Myanmar.
